I will scope out the hotels in the area and book a room soon. Once I know, you will know. :>>

EDITED: I will be meeting Znethru in Edgware not Middlesex! D'oh!

    Have a great weekend!

  • Names please

I am in the process of preparing a poll to determine where the London Blog Meet shall be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008.

So far, I have the names of a couple of places - Leeds, Greenwich, Blackheath. There may have been others but I can not find the names you folks suggested *brain drain* So, please lemme know what town/city you want included in the poll and don't forget majority rules!!!

I will post the poll tomorrow evening and you folks will decide where the London Bloggity Meet shall be held!

    YAYNESS!

  • But where in Greenwich??

Would the London Mini-blog meet be?

    Let's recap...there is gonna be a mini-blog meet on May 10th, 2008.

The three questions asked were as follows:

    1. Where shall it be held?

    2. What time shall we arrange to meet? Keep in mind that some folks are arriving from the south of England and need time to get there.

    3. What should we do? I am thinking it would be great to go out to dinner for a couple of hours. What do you think?

Now the first question has been sorted. We shall be meeting in Greenwich.
The other two questions need some answers.

    2. What time should we meet?

    3. Where should we meet?

And fourthly, where the heck is Greenwich and how do people get there?

    Hugs and kisses.

  • I See London....

Here is the genuine uncut version of the London Blog Meet. Sounds like a grand time was had by all.
    ***************
got off at Edgware Northern Line and made my way to Znethru’s home. A couple of blocks later, after I had passed the restaurant we were going to feast in, it dawned on me that I didn’t have Znethru’s mobile number or home address printed in the paper that had my directions on it as I was not staying overnight at his home but was stuck in my hotmail account in Cyberland.. What I did was go back to the restaurant, asked the waitress to call the telephone number left when reservation was booked and let them know where I was.

I was running a bit late as I should have been at Znethru’s home by 4pm and it was now 4:35pm. Had wanted to check into hotel prior to that but didn’t even print out directions for that. Duh.
Imagine a MenoMama bursting into the small Italian restaurant with big suitcase, carryon bag and speaking gibberish. Poor waitresses must have been frightened.

Decided to leave Zee a voice message to let him know where I was. Ordered a taxi to take me to hotel prior to London Blog Meet. Bastard never showed within 10 to 15 minutes as promised so I called the hotel to advise I would be checking in in a couple of hours. Decided the plan of action would be to stay put so there I sat in the restaurant with big suitcase, carryon bag. I tried to jump on an unsecure wireless internet signal in the restaurant but the signal was so weak. I was going to email Zee to tell him what I was doing.

Saw one of the bloggers walk by (faffajane) and was gonna go running after her but decided that I could not dash out the door quickly enough to catch her and I didn’t want to leave suitcase there.

Marvo, Little Boss, Big Boss came first to restaurant. I had met them previously in Canada when they came to visit and it was like meeting up with dear friends for dinner. Lovely, genuine people.

Znethru and MK came next and I knew them instantly. MK is full of life and bubbling with energy and has many sparkles in her eyes.

I kept pronouncing Znethru’s blog name incorrectly by saying Zenthru - thru instead of Z-nee-thru. I bugger up words all the time but promised to have it sorted by next year when I come back. We all went back to Zee’s home after dinner and he showed us his piano room. Zee is a multi-talented man who paints, writes poetry is writing a book, composes music and teaches piano. I was impressed with him and everything he has accomplished so far in his life.

Tobbots came next and he is gorgeous. Full of genuine, deep emotions and a devoted family man.
Loves to laugh, is handsome and I love his hair. Beautiful, brown curls.

Faffajane and CJ came next. I am like Faffa in many ways - feels deeply, loves her family, fights for
honesty, goodness and takes no crap from anyone. I would say the most important thing to her and therefore to me is our family. We are the glue in our family’s life and our family means everything to us.

CJ is divine. He is so damn handsome and wore a suit to the blog meet. If you think CJ is humorous on blog, you just haven’t lived if you have never met him. He is quick-witted, charming, full of life.

I really can not find the words to describe how much these folks have impacted me.
Words fail me. I could not bring justice to describing them.

During the dinner, I made a toast to the bloggers and broke down twice. I told them the story of my darling Anna who died 3 years ago and when she died, I stopped traveling. Hubby and I used to hop on a plane about 3 times a year but I stopped when she died November 2004. During the summer, I remarked yet again about bloggers in the UK who were meeting at Birmingham Blog Meet and hubby suggested I go. I hesitated for only a moment and then began forming plans.

I told the bloggers that for me to leave my crew I(Molly G, Sammy, Puddum, birds) behind for even one night, that was an indication of how much the bloggers meant to me.

Hubby understands my sacrifice to leave the ones I love so dearly but I was determined to meet such wonderful people. Every one on my friends’ list are amazing people and I may just meet a few more during my travels.

I am such a sap (emotional) but I begged everyone during the blog meet to spread the word I was a mean, hard cow. I have no idea how I am even going to make it through Liverpool Blog Meet without bawling a gazillion times. The only solution is to come back.

The best part about this trip is I am seeing the real England. I will not be doing any touristy things but seeing where the people live, eat, play on a daily basis.

Travelling around Britain is easy to do I suspect as they have an excellent public transportation station. When I went up the escalator at Waterloo tube station en route to the Waterloo train station, memories of my previous vacation to London with hubby came flooding back. We took the rail to Hampton Court one day to see Hampton Castle.

London has 14 subway lines going every which way. The closest subway line to me is the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) which has 2 lines only.

The Brit Rail system would be like the CP/CNR (Canadian Pacific/Canadian National Railway) in Canada as it goes from one end of Canada to the other.

I wrote all this on the South West Train to Bournemouth. The ride is smooth, the landscape flat, I see farmer’s fields, industrial spots. Battery running low. Arriving soon in Bournemouth to meet Jenray and her hubby.

    IMPORTANT

Znethru as provided additional information regarding the London Blog Meet.

    a) how to find the restaurant from the car park

Come out of the car park on foot exactly the way you drove in. Keep going for 50 to 60m until you are back where the shops are. Turn right. The restaurant is 100m or so on the right (without crossing over the road).

    b) If you would like directions to Znethru's home, please email me and I will send it to you.

    *excited**

  • London Blog Meet Details!

Firstly, I must thank Znethru for organizing all the restaurant particulars. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    Here we go...

We shall meet at Zenthru's place between 4-5pm on Sunday, November 25. Please email him for directions as I am not too comfortable giving out his home address right here. Between 5pm and 5:15pm, we shall walk over to the restaurant which is called ilMascalzone. The reservation will be in the name of Jonathan.

Clicky here for details. Click on Edgware (bottom right).

The menu looks fantastic! Great choice!

    il Mascalzone

    120 Station Rd
    Edgware
    London
    HA8 7AA

    Directions

Come out of Edgware Tube or Bus Station (same place). Walk out to the main road where the shops are = Station Road. Turn Left. Keep going in the same direction (left) for 300 metres (or so). The restaurant is on the left. Do not cross over the road!

NOTE: We will be going to Edgware, Middlesex. And NOT “Edgware Road”.

    IMPORTANT DETAILS

Edgware Tube is the very last stop on the Northern Line (going North) if you are coming by Tube. If coming by Tube, be sure to get on exactly the right train. The Northern Line splits into different branches – some are wrong for this destination. There is also a huge Bus station at Edgware (same place) and people might be able to get to me on the bus (depending on where they start their journey from).

If driving to Edgware, parking is notoriously horrendous even on a Sunday with parking controls until Midnight or later. However, you can park at the back of the Broadwalk shopping centre – loads of parking and for (say) a 3 or 4 hour stay, not ridiculously expensive.

Only one place to park. In the Broadwalk Car Park. Not too expensive for 3 to 4 hours. (I can’t lay my hands on figures, but it’s not high really).

How to get to the Broadwalk car park

If driving past Edgware Station (along Station Road) with the Station on your left, keep going past the Station until you come to ‘proper’ traffic lights (not the pedestrian crossing).

Take the slip road (left) i.e. turn left directly at the proper traffic lights. Within 50 metres you will be able to pick up a ticket and go through the barriers to park – loads of parking – hold on to your valuable ticket !!

When collecting your car later, you pay in a machine outside Sainsbury’s before driving out through the exit!

If coming from the A5. Turn right into Station Road. Again, wait for the first traffic lights, but this time turn right! You should now be in the same slip road that I have mentioned above!

    Thanks Zeee!!!!!

    WOOHOO!

BTW, Who's coming to the London Blog Meet?
